The unit is responsible for monitoring the Nation’s forest resources and compiling the information to be used for management , planning and decision making.
The unit’s activities include:-
- Execution of timber surveys in gazetted, communal and commercial forests.
- Change detection.
- Production of vegetation maps both at national and local level.
- Analysis of fire data from gazetted forests.
- Assessment of Permanent Increment Plots for growth estimation.
